I spent years training as a professional tennis player. Morning sessions, afternoon sessions, matches, travel, my entire life was sport. And my entire wardrobe was tennis skirts and performance kits that had no business being worn anywhere else.

Every time I finished training and needed to go somewhere a coffee, a lunch, anywhere, I had nothing to wear. Not because I didn't care about how I looked. Because nothing existed that could survive what I put my body through and still look like I wasn't coming from a match.

That was the problem I built Old Sands to solve.

My name is Rawan Essam. I'm a former professional tennis player, ranked among Egypt's top players. I founded Old Sands in 2024, not as a fashion project, but as a design problem I couldn't stop thinking about. I design every piece myself. Every decision comes from years of training: what fabric moves right, what waistband holds, what silhouette works on a body that lifts and runs and plays and also wants to sit at a restaurant without changing first.

I'm not a size small. I'm curvy, I'm muscular, I have a belly, I have big thighs. That body trained at a professional level for years, and it deserves clothes that are functional, flattering, and worth wearing all day. That's what I couldn't find. That's what I make.

Old Sands is manufactured locally in Egypt, by hands I trust, from fabrics I source and approve myself. Every colour is a committed decision. Every design exists because I tested what doesn't work until I found what does.

This isn't a lifestyle brand that borrowed an athletic aesthetic. This is what happens when an athlete gets tired of waiting for someone else to solve her problem.
